Hotel Review: Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino

With three nights booked in Las Vegas, NV for the Travel Goods Show, I used my American Express Platinum credit cards points for a stay at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. I enjoyed my time at this hotel as it was conveniently located for my trip. Keep reading to learn why I loved it.

Where It's Located

The Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino (formerly the Las Vegas Hilton) is located next door to the Las Vegas Convention Center. It is a quick 15-minute ride from the Harry Reid International Airport and just an 8-minute walk to the Convention Center.

Address: 3000 Paradise Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89109

Check-In

The check-in process was seamless and the front desk clerk was extremely helpful, friendly, and offered great advice for places to eat onsite.

Spotted outside by the entrance.

Room Tour

My room, located in the North Tower on the 17th floor, was comfortable, clean, and had great views of the Sphere and the strip, which was a block away. The room was complete with full-sized mirrors, a huge TV, a safe, a fridge, lamps containing multiple charging options (USB and regular power plugs), a desk/working station, a comfy accent chair, and lastly, a super comfortable King-sized bed.

The room was comfortable and clean.

Both side table lamps had two USB charging ports as well as 2 regular outlets to charge your devices.

I loved looking at the Sphere outside of my window.

Bathroom

The bathroom was clean and came equipped with Woodbury & Co shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap. There were plenty of towels and the rain shower was nice and had great water pressure. I used the magnified mirror and hair-dryer daily.

The bathroom lighting was bright.

Loved the two shower heads (rain and handheld).

Loved the lighting on the vanity.

In-Room Dining Experience

The burger and brownie hit the spot after a busy travel day.

Tired from my early travel day, I opted for room service to unwind before venturing out and exploring the casino floor. I ordered the Wagyu burger with bacon and a side of onion rings. I also ordered a brownie and Diet Pepsi since they didn't have Diet Coke. Everything was tasty and cost $60.91 (including an 18% tip).

The menus below shows what's offered for room-service as of March 2025:

Where to Eat & Drink

There are several restaurants including Benihana, Rikki Tiki Sushi, Silk Road Asian Bistro, Edge Steakhouse, Fresco Italiano, Cordovano Joe's Pizza, Drafts Sports Bar & Grill, Loco Bueno Tacos, Fresh Buffet, Pool Bar & Grill, The Marketplace, Superbook Bar, Sid's, The International Bar, and Velvet Bar.

The two Birria Tacos ($24.93) from the Drafts Sports Bar & Grill hit the spot. Dipping the tacos into the Consume was delicous and the limes plus salsa verde paired perfectly adding some acidity, which balanced out the flavors.

I went back to the Drafts Sports Bar & Grill to try their $23 nachos. Huge chunks of chicken were scattered throughout. I definitely had leftovers.

After the Travel Goods Show day 1 wrapped, I decided to enjoy a well-earned margarita with a salted rim at the Velvet bar and I charged it to my room. The margarita cost $22.16.

The delicious margarita came in a tall glass and was tart and strong.

Entertainment

I walked the casino floor and tried my hand at penny slots and lost. It was fun while it lasted and then I wandered around and found myself at the largest casino sportsbook in the world. I saw multiple huge screens playing a variety of different sports. During my breaks from the convention next door, I would find myself at the sports bar since their food was good.

Largest Sportsbook in the world

While walking the casino floor, I noticed multiple advertisements for Barry Manilow, as he's performing exclusively at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino beginning spring 2025. Visit this link for more show dates.

Fun Facts

1. Originally the International Hotel (1969)
   - It opened as the International Hotel in 1969 and was the largest hotel in the world at the time, with 1,512 rooms.
   - Its grand opening featured Barbra Streisand and Elvis Presley, who began his legendary Vegas residency here.

Elvis in the lobby upon entering the hotel.

2. Elvis Presley’s Legendary Residency
   - Elvis performed 837 consecutive sold-out shows at the International Hotel (now Westgate) from 1969 to 1976.
   - His show "Elvis in Person at the International Hotel" was recorded live and became a hit album.

3. Name Changes & Ownership
   - After the International Hotel, it became the Las Vegas Hilton (1971–2012) and was a major hotspot for celebrities and high rollers.
   - It was renamed the LVH – Las Vegas Hotel & Casino (2012–2014) before becoming the Westgate Las Vegas (2014–present).

I ate at the sports bar two days in a row as I enjoyed their Birria Tacos and Chipotle Chicken Nachos.

4. Home to the Largest Casino Sportsbook in the World
   - The Westgate SuperBook is the biggest sportsbook in Vegas, with a 340-seat theater, a 220-foot video wall, and a $1,000,000 NFL handicapping contest.

5. UFO & Space-Themed History
   - In the 1980s, the Las Vegas Hilton was known for its "Star Trek: The Experience" attraction, which included a full-scale Starship Enterprise bridge and a motion simulator ride.
   - The hotel was also near Area 51, leading to rumors of secret meetings with UFO researchers.

6. A Presidential & Celebrity Hotspot
   - Richard Nixon gave a speech here in 1971.
   - Michael Jackson stayed in the hotel’s 5,000 sq ft "King Suite" (now called the Elvis Suite).
   - Liberace, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin were frequent guests.

Wish I won some money but it was fun.

7. The Largest Single-Level Convention Center in Vegas

9. The First Hotel with an Automated Check-In System
   - In the 1970s, the Las Vegas Hilton introduced one of the first automated check-in systems in the world.

I didn't get to use the monorail but it's convenient and costs $13 for a 24 hour pass.

10. Unique Monorail Connection
   - The Westgate is the northernmost stop on the Las Vegas Monorail, making it easy to travel to the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Strip.

The display was Elvis the previous day. They changed it to Barry Manilow.

Know Before You Go

-There's a resort fee and things in Vegas tend to be pricey so be prepared to spend a pretty penny.

-Wear comfortable shoes as there will be a lot of walking! I hit my 10,000 daily steps goal each day in Vegas.

-Check the weather to help prep for what to bring for your trip. I brought layers since temperatures were in the high 80s and the walk to the Convention Center, while short, was hot and I broke a sweat.

-Be wary of pushy/convincing salespeople as you walk from the lobby and pass a few shops to get to your hotel elevator. Stay strong and say NO if you are on a budget.  (I was lured in with free lotion and sat down to try undereye cream. I left when I learned it was $299.) 😂

-Your wallet will be tested as you walk by funny merchandise. I wanted to buy these two souvenirs.

I almost bought this "Don't be a Salty Bitch" tank top to match my sunglasses case.
These are daily words to live by, if you ask me. Life is too short to be salty.

"I match energy so how we gon' act today?"
I usually don't see these types of souvenirs on my trips.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino did a great job of blending its historic roots with modern touches. This was a solo trip and I felt safe the entire time while dining alone, wandering the halls, the casino floor, and drinking at the Velvet bar. I felt safe since everyone was in town for multiple conventions (Electric Vehicle Expo, Pizza Convention, and the Travel Goods Show).

I want to go back and visit the pool, which I didn't get to use since I was at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the majority of the day. I also want to try the Serenity & Spa fitness center. Both the gym and pool closed at 6pm daily.

I also want to try staying at one of the themed suites promoted in the lobby during my check-in. Themed suites include the Lucky Bunny, Christmas, Halloween, Flower, and Day of the Dead Suite, to name a few.

Finally, while I used 80k American Express Platinum credit card points to shave off a chunk of my stay, my entire 3-night folio came out to $274.14 as I splurged on room service, drinks at the bar, a room upgrade, and the $51 daily resort fee.
